Rising of the Dry Bones

So many of us have been affected by the dreaded Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. Whether this means an attack on you or your family’s health or even on your finances, this  virus has done a number on this and other countries. While this whole thing has been a little frightening for many of us, I thank God that He is currently using this frightening disease in such an amazing way. Along with the fact that we are being given the opportunity to slow down and spend more time with family, God reminded me this morning that he is also using this crises in a much more measurable way with the story of Ezekial and the Valley of Dry Bones.

If you are unfamiliar with this story, God leads the prophet Ezekiel to a valley of bones that must have been a pretty frightening place. Who would have thought that he would have used such a scary place to bring about a miracle? Isn’t that the beauty of our Heavenly Father though?

During this time God asked Ezekiel to preach over the dry bones to bring them back to life.

He said unto me, preach upon these bones and say unto them, “O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.” I prophesied as commanded and as I preached, there was a sound and, oh, rustling! The bones then came together, bone to bone. I continued to watch as sinews formed and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them. (Ezekial 37: 4+7-8)

Following these bodies coming together, God then asked Ezekial to breathe life into these bodies…Say to the wind, “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.” (Ezekial 37:9)

After obeying, Ezekiel prophesied over these bones saying…“This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live”. As he preached, breath entered each of these bodies and they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army. (Ezekiel 37: 9)

While these bodies lived these was one problem…They say, “Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.” (Ezekial 37:11)

Does this phrase sound familiar to you? Maybe it is something similar to what has been running through your mind lately. It’s ok, God understands this and is ready to bring a happy ending to the story.

God then told Ezekiel to assure these people (the house of Isreal) that…God , the Master, says: “I will open your graves and bring you out alive as my people and bring you into the Land of Israel. And ye shall know that I am the Lord your God. I will breathe life into you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it,” declares the Lord. “Behold, I will take the children of Israel out of the nations that they have been exiled and bring them into their own land. I will make them one nation and NEVER AGAIN will they be divided.” (Ezekial 37: 12+21)

Although Ezekial’s journey was many many many years ago, I believe that God is currently using this virus to bring our dry bones and stony hearts back to his perfect love and plan for our lives. Let’s face it, this world has been in a steady decline away from God for the last several years and the last thing that a loving father is sure to want for his children is to watch them slip away into an evil abyss. So, today let’s thank God for bringing us back into his loving arms and for soon bringing us into a much healthier and loving world. #PraiseHim
